Happy Holidays!

Around the holiday season people tend to make exceptions, get carried away and lose themselves in sweets, treats, and over eating. I know I’ve been guilty of it in the past, what about you? But, since I’ve been using this technique, I’ve had more energy, my digestive system has been nicer to me, and I don’t have a bunch of guilt afterwards.

Your Food For Thought: Try the 80/20 rule.

I definitely don’t eat super healthy 100% of the time, nor would I want to. Life is a balance. I don’t mean the F***-it-go-crazy-eat-whatever-you-want-for-two-or-more-days-then-go-on-a-strict-diet-because-over-the-weekend-you-stuffed-your-face balance. That yo-yo dieting can be exhausting and never sustainable.

You deserve to enjoy your meals, feel completely satisfied, live a little and treat your body with respect. The 80/20 rule is there so you can have your cake and eat it too (literally). And ENJOY it!

I use to think “well, I’m eating one cookie, oops two, ok I might as well have four or five because I already cheated and ate two.”

I now believe that every cookie counts, just as much as every vegtable counts. I stand in my choices and am completely present (not talking, texting, or watching TV) when I do choose to eat a cookie. Oh, and I enjoy it so much more!

80% of the time, I choose nourishing foods and activities that support my body’s energy, strenghth, clarity, repair and postivite growth. 20% of the time I choose other fun foods and activities (because I really do think being healthy is fun too but sometimes there’s gotta be room for that sugar filled dessert or drink). Either way I take full responsibility for my choices.

What do you think your current average ratio is? 50/50? 30/70? 70/30?

Your healthy challenge for the week: Make it 80/20. Eat well and choose foods and activities that will support and nourish your body 80% of your week & leave the rest for 20% of the time.

PS. The Clean Eating Challenge is back! This time new and improved and for 30 days starting Jan 2nd. This is not a diet but a way to bring awareness about the toxins in your foods, try new recipes, add in some healthy habits for the new year and get your digestive system working a bit better than it does over the holidays.
